About Kevin Keys III

Kevin Keys III is honored to be running for State Representative of Michigan District 5. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Kevin has always been deeply connected to his community. His journey in education began in the Oak Park School District, where he completed his K-12 education. During his formative years, Kevin actively participated in several youth groups and organizations, co-founding Young People 4 Change in high school. This organization is dedicated to standing against all forms of victimization, including those affecting minorities, individuals with disabilities, the LGBTQ+ community, and immigrants. It also champions education, voting rights, women's rights, and the fight against police brutality in Detroit.

Kevin pursued a degree in Political Science at Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama, and proudly finished his degree in 2.5 years at the age of 20. Currently, he is attending Texas Southern University, where he is in his last semester of obtaining a Master’s of Education in Educational Administration with a concentration in Higher Education and Human Resources.

Professionally, Kevin has a rich background in leadership and advocacy. He was the Campaign Manager for Latonya Millhouse, who ran for State Representative for District 52 in Alabama in 2022. Additionally, he has significant experience in media and communication, having hosted Seasons 2 and 3 of the Campus Rundown.

In addition to his academic and leadership roles, Kevin is now a teacher in the Oak Park School District, working at his old elementary school. This role allows him to give back to the community that shaped him and to inspire the next generation of students. Furthermore, he serves as the Head Step Coach in the Oak Park School District, where his dedication to fostering talent and discipline in students through step coaching is a testament to his commitment to youth development. He has also earned certifications in Digital Marketing and Emotional Intelligence from Barber-Scotia College, enhancing his skills in communication, strategic planning, and empathetic leadership.

Kevin's leadership and service have been recognized by several notable individuals and organizations, including the NAACP and activist and award-winning rapper and actor David Banner, as well as global non-profit organizations like Build On. He was elected as the Regional 2nd Vice Director for the Southern Region of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and the President of the Miles College chapter of the NAACP. He is a proud member of the NAACP, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and When We All Vote. Kevin is also a three-time attendee of the NPHC Days on Capitol Hill, where he yearly engages in discussions about legislation with members of Congress.

Kevin’s commitment to activism was evident during the 2020 George Floyd outrage, where he was on the front lines peacefully protesting for justice. His passion for activism and education is unwavering. He believes in the power of speaking up for our beliefs and inspiring the youth to overcome all odds, regardless of their background. His experiences with adversity have taught him the importance of perseverance and grit, and he is committed to using his education to make a positive impact on the world.
